Tailpieces with integrated composite fine tuners.

A traditional Ebony Mirecourt model with an efficient tuner:

It's the new composite finetuner,
it's elegant and lighter than the usual plastic models.
There is a perceptible sound improvement.
The light finetuners allow the bridge
a certain transmission of movement
and gives a better projection of sound with less interference.
The violoncello fitting…A new concept:
a tailpiece which is both light and elegant.

The Cello Harmonie tailpiece.

We offer two lines in tailpieces with 4 finetuners.

  • The Harmonie(in Ebony) french shape in standard length.
  • The Bois d'Harmonie+Tun : Boxwood, Ebony, Rosewood, Pernambuco.
A choice of lengths are offered in either French or Hill shape.

    For Violin and Viola

Take off the unused finetuners and find the direct grip that you are familiar with. 1,2,3 or 4 finetuners as desired…

What is the benefit of a large choice of models?

Due to each instrument being unique ( different lengths of wood, weight, and aesthetic choice ) the Luthier is relied upon to tune each individual instrument according to its needs. These details have been forgotten since industry took over the mass production of accessories for the violin family.

Why didn't we use finetuners on the violin before now?
The old gut strings (or metal wound gut strings) are very elastic and are very easy to tune with the peg, whereas the steel strings ( like the "E" on the violin ) requires 8 times more precision. The little screw increases the precision needed to finetune metal strings.

Is lightless of the tailpiece an important facture?
On a violin, the lightless of the tailpiece (12 grammes or 1/2ounce ) doesn't comfortably support another additional 4 finetuners ( another 12 grammes or half an ounce ) Doubling it's weight, the tailpiece acts as a dampener and hinders the vibrations. This extra weight would deter the strength and speed at which the sound responds. Why does the cello usually have 4 finetuners, and the violin have only one? The cellists adopted the 4 metal strings a long time ago whereas the violin has only one metal string.( the "E" string) .

The technological progress of metal strings are more appealing today to violinists either for the "A" steel string or for the whole set. Viola players will be tempted by the "C" and maybe by the metal "D". It is for them that the finetuners became necessary.
